SpaceNanoWeld is a project awarded to AmaDema through a tendering process held by the European Space Agency. The objective of the project is the technical assessment of NanoWeld® technology for space applications. Properties such as material elastic modulus, damping, and electrical conductivity have been assessed.
Stiffness-Thermoplastic specimens
NanoWeld+CNT CFRP specimens demonstrated a 15% increase of the measured stiffness along with a 17% increase of the tensile strength (ASTM D3039).
Stiffness-Thermoset specimens
NanoWeld+CNT CFRP specimens demonstrated 9% increase of the measured stiffness through accredited tensile testing (ASTM D3039).
Damping- Thermoset & Thermoplastic specimens
Damping results using the cantilever method were not conclusive. Nevertheless, Dynamic Mechanical Analysis performed has demonstrated that the employment of NanoWeld technology results in significantly increased damping factor (up to 15%) in frequencies ranging from 0 to 200 Hz.
Through thickness Electrical conductivity testing
Through thickness electrical conductivity of thermoplastic NanoWeld+CNT CFRP specimens demonstrated a 17% increase
